Notes:
Speedwell carries weather data for over 100,000 sites worldwide. The Speedwell Data Inventory tool presents only the 20,000 of the
most frequently requested sites. The tool serves two functions: one is to show our core data sets to all viewers, including those
who are not logged in. The other is to provide access to tools and data download for SuperPack® clients.
All these data sets are
available to SuperPack® clients for no additional charge directly from this web site or by FTP delivery.
Note that the search function operates only on the 20,000 sites shown, not our whole inventory. If you cannot find what you
need please contact us.
The data sets shown on this page are available to SuperPack® clients for no additional charge. The SuperPack licence permits all individual
users in the licenced entity to access data and tools through this interface. Weather data can also be requested by FTP delivery or
programmatically through the Speedwell API.
The Data Inventory icon shows available weather elements, start and end dates and percentage completeness. Please note that not all weather
elements are shown for all sites. We can often access more data than is shown in the audit tables. Please contact us.
-
Wind Max Gust readings are usually only reported when there is strong wind. So series completeness may therefore appear low.
-
Data before 01 Jan 1950 is not usually shown or audited. Where the Audit Start Date is shown as 01 Jan 1950, a longer
history is likely to be available.
-
Snow depth readings are only shown when snow is lying. So snow depth completeness may therefore appear low.
Inventory Search: Use this to find sites that meets the specified percentage completeness requirement for the chosen weather variable for the chosen period. Note that the search function operates only on the 20,000 sites in our primary archive, not our whole inventory. If you cannot find what you need please contact us.
The search tool operates in two modes:
- Search on the area currently shown on the map: define the required shape ie Rectangle or Circle. Choose weather element, required completeness percentage and length of history. The shape drawn can then be resized with the mouse. Press Search. Stations found are listed in the grid below. This grid can be exported.
- Search around a point: First either enter a place or a Lat/Long location and press the “>” button to the right. A rectangle or circle will automatically be drawn around that point. The shape drawn can then be resized with the mouse. Press Search. Stations found are listed in the grid below. This grid can be exported.
